Why Include Film?
With an investment like a family photoshoot, you might think that it’s overkill to include film on top or instead of digital, but film can bring your Family, Graduation, or Elopement photoshoot to the next level. In this post I’ll go over a bit of what makes film so special and why you should consider adding it to your next photoshoot.
To start, I have a great example from a mountain bridal photoshoot. The picture on the left was taken on digital and the picture on the right is an unedited film photograph.

Right off the bat, you can notice a couple of things about the film photo. The color that’s coming through is much more rich and it captures a lot more of the highlights and shadows in the photograph, giving it quite a bit more depth. Another perk of having it capture more of the image is that the actual file that you will be getting back will be a very high quality scan.
One area that I may be slightly biased on, is the overall aesthetic that film brings to the shoot. Film photography brings a timeless and classic quality to a shoot that digital can’t. Growing up, I remember going to my grandmother’s house and looking through her thick photo albums with her. Looking through, you could tell that each shot was thought out and that through that, each moment was truly cherished. It felt more like holding and flipping through memories rather than simply scrolling through a phone gallery. As a photographer, I want to be able to cherish these moments with you and give you photographs that hopefully you will look through someday with future generations. Whether it be important moments and milestones like a graduation or a family photoshoot to mark the year, your family is important and deserves to have timeless photographs that last.
If you choose to add film to your shoot in addition to digital, you can also be confident that your digital and film will match through and through. In my years editing professionally, I specialized in matching digital photographs to film, so you can be confident in receiving a product you’ll love!
